Entering fixtures and results
In this document, fixtures and results refer to a game that will be or
has been played - they are treated the same except that a result is
just a fixture with a final score attached.
The fixtures dialog operates similar to the dialogs for editing teams,
tipsters, etc in the way that you must click the save button
or any changed details (including entered scores!) will be discarded.
Whilst this may be fiddly, it has been done for consistency.
- Games for round [select round]: here you select what round you are
entering fixtures for. Beneath this selector are the games for the
selected round - clicking on a game here will display its details on the
right
- Home team, away team: obvious. If nothing is showing here, check that
you have entered abbreviations for each team in the "Edit teams" window
- Venue: obvious. This option may be disabled if you choose not to
keep track of where games are played (see League options)
- Margin game: tick this box if you want tipsters to choose a winning
margin for this game
- Completed: indicates whether the game has been completed or not.
You cannot enter tips for completed games. However, you can temporarily
un-complete a game, update missed tips, and then re-tick the completed
box. This must be done in one Wests session (ie, don't close the program
or load another file in between) otherwise the completed scores will
be lost because in your data file, Wests doesn't save scores for games
that haven't been completed (for obvious reasons).
- Start time: obvious. May be disabled if you choose not to keep track
of game start times (see League options)
- Extra game info: If you're dedicated, then you could use this box
to include information that doesn't fit into
any normal data associated with a game, or to link to an actual scorecard
and report of the match.
- Point multipliers: generally these will all be 1, though in the
example shown above they are not! These numbers are what the normal
number of points received for a correct tip are multiplied by, and
can be modified on a game-by-game basis. eg, in the example above,
there is more incentive to tip the home team than the away team
(because they return more points) however the higher potential points score
probably indicates that they are rank underdogs. A basis for the
multipliers used in each game could be odds provided by betting
agencies (eg in the example above, WB were at $3.30 to win and WCE
were $1.33 favourites). Remember that these numbers are also multiplied
by the points you set in the tipping comp options.
You can only enter whole numbers, including zero if you do not want the results
of this match to affect the tipping competition.
- Enter/update results: display results box for this game.
This is really easy to use! Just enter the final scores in the
appropriate boxes.
- Save game: commit changes to memory - if you close this window by clicking
cancel though, these changes will be lost. Make sure you click OK to
close the window!
- Delete game: deletes the game from Wests.
- All games in this round completed: This tells you the state of the round -
whether or not you have entered results for each match. A greyed out box means
that some games have been completed. You can click on this box to complete or
uncomplete every game in the round at once. The only reason you would
want to do this is if you need to enter someone's tips after a round has been
completed; since you can't enter tips for a completed match, you can use this
option to uncomplete all matches for the round, then enter that person's tips,
and then tick the box again to mark all matches as completed again.
You do not need to explicitly enter a bye. If a team does not have
a game scheduled for a particular round, it will be allocated the
number of premiership points you have specified in the
League options. You can choose whether
to list teams with a bye for a given round on the fixtures pages
in the output options window.
